Sunrise and Moonset

When the moon sets after the sun rises, it’s the perfect time to take engagements for a fabulous couple!

I’m definitely a morning person, but being awake and ready to shoot before the sun rises or the moon sets is a tall order! Thankfully, my niece, Adelaide, and her fiancé Harrison were ready and even early to their engagement session that started in the dark. (Brave souls!)

When Addie said she wanted red rocks as her background for their engagements, we had originally planned on Valley of Fire National Park. With all the park closures, though, that was no longer an option & neither was our beautiful Red Rock National Park.

However, even though Red Rock was closed, getting those beautiful, red rocks in the background was most definitely possible! We just had to think outside the “National Park” box. 😉

I had scoped out the area a week beforehand in the afternoon, but it was sweltering 92 degrees F. I asked if they’d be game for a sunrise session. They loved the idea!

Little did I realize when we agreed on sunrise that not only would we be getting beautiful, sunrise light, but that we would be able to see a gorgeous, full moon and capture it, as well! I had no idea that the moon was special to them, either, so it was a double win!

I loved getting to watch this beautiful couple laugh, tease, and cuddle together! They are most definitely a joyful couple! You see, every couple is different…some have one quiet, serious person with the other more loud and outgoing. Sometimes, both people are quiet. These two are a happy, joking, laughing couple that are so in love, it’s palpable!

Favorite things about Harrison: I love that he serenaded her as they walked and then would break out into a Russian accent and joke with her…and I LOVE how you can tell that he adores her!

Favorite things about Addie: too many to list. Seriously! She is happy, intelligent, fun, funny, and kind….just to name a few. 🥰 Oh, and I love her enthusiasm for life! She is someone who loves with her whole heart. Harrison was brilliant to keep chasing her until she let him catch her.😉

As an aunt, I can get a little protective of my nieces and nephews, but being the family wedding photographer gives me the opportunity to get to know the “incoming” fiancés like the other aunties cannot. You see, the camera shows me things about people. It gives me a special view. Not only do I get to spend 1 1/2 – 2 hours with each couple, but I get to see them through my unique lens. I get a little peek into who they really are; and I loved what I saw in Harrison and Addie.

As I was picking the burrs out of my jeans at home after the shoot (at only 7:45 a.m.!🤦🏼‍♀️), I was so glad that I was able to finally meet Harrison and see he and Addie together.

Marriage is such a beautiful and wonderful act. I’m so glad that they get to do it together. They are a perfect match (with the perfect wedding date: 10/10/2020)!

I love you, Addie, and am so happy for you and Harrison!
